Thomas J. Henry and Family Sponsor 7th Annual Apollo in the Hamptons Fundraiser

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (August 22, 2016) – On Saturday, August 20th, San Antonio attorney Thomas J. Henry worked alongside A-list celebrities and chart-topping musicians to sponsor the Apollo Theater’s 7th Annual Apollo in the Hamptons benefit.
The star-studded event included dinner, dancing, and special performances by Pharrell Williams, The Roots, Jon Bon Jovi, Lionel Richie, Joe Walsh, Usher, Ciara, Kimberly Nichole of The Voice, and Gwen Stefani featuring a duet with Blake Shelton.
Thomas J. Henry attended the event with his wife, Azteca Henry, and their daughter, Maya, with the goal of contributing to yet another good cause. The event raised $5 million that will help preserve the historic theater as well as support community engagement programs aiding thousands of students, families, and community organizations.
Founded by Ronald O. Perelman, the Apollo in the Hamptons benefit has a reputation for attracting celebrities, socialites, and political figures with philanthropic interests. Among this year’s attendees were David Foster, Katie Holmes, Jennifer Lopez, Jack Nicholson, Chris Rock, Robert and Hope Smith, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Former Secretary of State Colin Powell.
One of New York’s Oldest Cultural Cornerstones
Since 1934, the Apollo Theater has served as a pillar for the Harlem community. Previously the site of a whites-only venue, the theater has become synonymous with the rise of African-American culture in popular media and helped to launch numerous legendary performers, including Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday, Sammy Davis, Jr., James Brown, Bill Cosby, Gladys Knight, Luther Vandross, D’Angelo, Jay-Z, and Lauryn Hill. In 1987, it became the set of the nationally syndicated televisions show Showtime at the Apollo, which ran for an astonishing 21-years.
